Forum: GratefulDead Subject: non-Dead: live Oil Gusher video feed

I posted about The Oil Gusher Disaster on May 2. For anyone interested, there is very important Breaking News that I feel affects all of us.

May 20, 2010 (yesterday)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), the chairman of twin climate and energy panels in the House, today continued his investigation into the BP oil spill, releasing a video of his recent trip to the Gulf Coast and posting a live feed of the BP oil spill. On his recent trip, Markey met with local officials, members of the response teams and local residents affected by the spill.

Anyway, Ed Markey forced BP to provide live-video of the oil gusher. BP has something like 15 or 20 cameras down there. They've been operating these cameras 24/7, at the 5000-foot-deep gusher site, since this disaster began.

Yesterday BP was saying they were sucking up 5,000 barrels a day, out of the gusher. So that means there is ZERO barrels leaking. According to BP's "established" estimates, AND, what ALL news media have been reporting for a month, 5000 barrels is what is "leaking." That's how we get to Zero Barrels now.

I think the numbers are at least 50,000 barrels a day. Scientists analyzing the video may begin to argue that 50,000 barrels is a very low estimate. That's over 2 million gallons of crude oil per day gushing out. This is more 60 million gallons to this point. Plus, more than a million gallons of very toxic disperant chemicals. Plumes are dispersed throughout the water column. We have oil plumes and tar balls entering the loop-current, heading up the east coast. What's going to happen when the weather gets stormy, and we get very strong on-shore winds?

Take a look at The Oil Gusher live video feed. To me, it looks like it's gushing millions of gallons of crude oil PER DAY!

Please, Obama - and everyone: ALL HANDS ON DECK! Immediately! This is clearly an emergency of epic proportions. It's been 19 days since I said something here. I'm turning 59 years old soon. I've never seen anything like this epic man-made disaster in my lifetime. Who's is charge of this thing? wtf!!! Please, help me out with this thing.

Congressman Ed Markey, is my HERO! Thank You, sir, for providing us the live video feed of the oil gusher.

most definitely, heads need to roll at the top of BP, not to mention top brass at whatever agencies are responsible for allowing the actions that propelled this oil leak to occur in the first place

however, i have to admit to being slightly amused by the larger public/media reaction to these sorts of situations, the horror and shock at the effect this will have on the environment, health, safety, and whatnot, and yet these same people will not even blink an eye at using, frequently and daily, items and chemicals that directly affect their very health, and whose production and continued use contribute far more negatively to the environment and the public health than this recent Gulf Coast oil spill ever will

all the air fresheners, lawn chemicals, pharmaceuticals, high-processed foods, sugar-laced drinks & foods, toxic plastics, paints, lacquers, sprays, foam, cleansers, detergents, etc., synthetic everything, all leaking into the environment and our bodies, slowly but surely killing us, sickening us with diseases and illnesses, adding hugh costs to healthcare

where's the outcry? a few feeble articles in the alt. media?

the Gulf Coast oil leak makes me sick; big oil makes me sick; but the real crime is far closer to home

Amen Arbuthnot. Finger-pointing requires no effort. It seems that there is a segment of our society who'll never lift a finger to point at themselves. Regardless of the stakes.

And, BP is currently streaming The Oil Gusher webcam live feed on their website. Right now, this link is working very, very well. It's certainly worth taking a look.

My heart beats to the intensity of Our Mother bleeding. Thank you for this link. It is often now when listening to The Dead (and The Dead is all I listen to now. Nothing else can compare to their Music of the Spheres),I send my sorrow through the music with thought/intent to heal this madness in every direction. Thank you all for your prayers to heal our Great Mother and being diligent in listening to the music play. We are the Eyes of the World. Please pray. . .Namaste.

Why do I think of this tune?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn6G_EWFMds

It's a lot like what my painter friend Donald said to me

"Stick a fork in their ass and turn them over, they're done"

watch dead rats wash up on shore
complain if they can't swim

going from memory here my apologizes if i got any lyrics wrong

One of my favorite tunes form one of my favorite albums

No feed there, alink on that page said it was streaming on BP's website, nothing there either.
The Huffington Post said they had it their, however, zilch live feed @ The Huff.

If Huffington Post isn't running it then; A) something is wrong w/ the feed (if that's the case you would think someone would post a "having tech difficulties" yada yada) or B) something is wrong with the politics in having a live feed of a catastrophe of epic proportions playing out to millons.

It's on Markey's Congressional website, at The Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

http://globalwarming.house.gov/spillcam

I think the website is taking zillions of hits on the internet. It's going to cause some problems, hopefully minimal. I was able to stream the video from the Oil Gusher webcam on Internet Explorer, Opera, and Firefox browsers - one browser at a time. After I saw you had problems, I closed all 3 browsers.

I had trouble re-connecting. It took numerous re-trys over a few minutes for me to get a new connection to the webcam video stream, but I have it again. Definitely looks like millions of gallons per day.

Have any of you read the book Empire of Illusion by Chris Hedges?? The gov't can't do shit...the are only for show... the corporations run things. Not just oil...

hey remember the expression "government runs on the consent of the governed" whatever happened to that?

Who's to blame?? BP? some govt regulatory agency? no my friends...any among us that use oil in any of its components, are to blame, could this be a wake up call??

hope it all get clears up

Peace:Skippy

i kinda wish they would put that diameter piping in scale.i being a pipefitter by trade and worked many different ships my guess is thats a 40"diameter pipe or more.that would definitely spew lots of oil.i living on the gulf coast of florida havent been devastated yet. but nobody's even mentioning the possibility of hurricanes. which the season is right around the corner.if that happens i'm sure its going to be an even bigger disaster. just a thought.:)black peter> but who can the weather command.

If they put a scale on the feed the American public would be able to measure the true flow (gpm's) that is rolling unabated in to our sea creatures home,

I'm trying to keep my cool about all this, but its getting more difficult as the days pass.

The great state of Kentucky wants this idiot :http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/22/us/politics/22paul.html

to be Senator.

God help us ! (She must have a sense of humor)

The one thing about both of the Pauls' is that you always know where they stand. Even though I tend to disagree with a lot of their views at least they have the courage to say what they believe.

I live in S Florida, just a few miles from the ocean so this is hitting pretty close to home. We all depend on oil and I'm no different so in some sense he is correct that this is just an accident (although I cannot understand why BP doesn't have plans in place for what to do in an emergency)

I can only imagine what the media reaction would be to this if George Bush was still president. I guarantee it would be totally different!

Some wise words BD . Humans f up . Wow - that never happens . Can't legislate that one away . I would have more respect for folks with views espousing hatred of all things oily if , and only if , they gave up every single product that they use that is tainted by eVil oil . No more posting. No more listening to GD - or any recorded music . No more plastics of any kind ... ahh no more Jello . No more lots of stuff I just don't care to list > way to long . Sure we all would love cold fusion , ect. , but if we want to live this lifestyle - that the world wants to live as well , and will regardless of anything we can do - this is one of the shitty prices to pay . It's the galling self-righteousness that grabs me every time . A twist on GGutfelds' quote - I became a liberal by hanging out with socialists, I became a conservative by hanging out with liberals , then I became nothing by hanging out with conservatives . " GW was right , it's not at all about political parties ( GWash. Farewell Address ), it's about a free people loving and respecting liberty . What's that old expression ? "It's the liberty , stupid ." Something like that.

"Everything in moderation." (ya, i know, it's a tired old phrase...)

i don't think it is a question of all or nothing, there's enough for everyone if people just started making individual choices...buy quality that you know will last many lifetimes and chose local independents whenever possible, the multi-nationals are the ones trying to perpetuate all of this madness by undercutting small biz with cheap crap, if we don't like what these assholes are doing to the planet then stop funding them...make do with less, a walk in the forest or a swim at the beach opposed to owning an ATV or a speed boat, our own vanity is what's killing us, a hard drive full of live music can provide countless hours of entertainment and enlightenment at a relatively insignificant cost to our future...live close to work and a neighborhood worth hanging in, that's a big one for me cause i choose to be close to nature and relish my solitude, if i'm to wean myself off the big oil tit then i need to consider either a career change to something like farming or eco tourism, or give up my ideal location altogether...get into alt energy, peak oil is over the bell curve, sooner or later we are going to have to either adapt or perish, almost everyone is capable of maintaining their own rooftop solar/wind generation, lithium storage battery technology has come a long way in terms of longevity and eco friendly components, the only reason people haven't done this en mass is because it's still cheaper and easier to plug into THE WALL...

of course it is never quite that simple, i sure don't have all the answers nor does any one individual, but together...

i agree with you Micah in the sense that we shouldn't be waiting for politicians to lead the way, elected officials can be easily replaced by BIG BIZ and can't change any of this even if they wanted to, they're put in place through the bidding of the money men who control us in more ways than we can imagine...all of these forces only have power over us because we so readily hand it over to them due to fear, greed and ignorance

Well you got me there, HaHa :)

"I can only imagine what the media reaction would be to this if George Bush was still president."

I'm afraid that we (America) will be feeling the effects of the Bush administration for generations to come. Obama will to , but it won't be because of his colossal failure as a president.(he being 1st black prez) They both have been graded on a very generous curve IMHO

Oil is a necessary thing men risk there life daily do bring it to us, Humans will never not need it. We as a nation do terrible injustices to our planet in the name of progress.

I love Jerry and Merl, I could'nt find a "Save Mother Earth' on the 'tube but this works for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45bLk96cu_U

Every terrible injustice Is always done in the name of progress, @ least since recorded history. Maybe they had a whole other deal going beforehand , but probably not. We always think so much better of ourselves and our own motivations. What utopian vision is out there in the mirage that you seek ? Nothing is out there but the ash heap of history and bad trips.

i agree with ya hippie it is difficult.kinda pisses me off how the media still defines these disasters as a spill!!lol!!! i thought a spill was knocking over a few quarts in the driveway :) with this many gpm's its hard to imagine the devastation is caused within the last 30 days or so.
